Chinese Painted Quail Eggs for those who plan on hatching their own quails in an incubator.
These eggs come from a good stock of breeding quails. Although all of them are believed to be fertile not everyone will hatch. There are many things that can cause a lower hatching rate than expected:
- Transit, although we try to make the packaging as safe as possible
- Incubation conditions such as the type of incubator and brooder you are using.
About the Chinese Painted Quail
The Chinese Painted Quail, also known as the Button Quail or King Quail, is a small and beautifully patterned bird native to East Asia, including China, Japan, and Vietnam. These quails are popular among aviculture enthusiasts due to their charming appearance and manageable size.
Measuring just 10-12 centimetres in length, Chinese Painted Quails display a distinctive coloration. The males are more vibrant, with a bright blue-grey head and breast, accompanied by a chestnut-coloured back and wings. Their undersides are pale with black spots, creating an eye-catching contrast. Females, on the other hand, exhibit a more subdued brownish-grey plumage, helping them blend into their natural surroundings.
These quails are ground-dwelling birds that prefer habitats like grasslands, scrublands, and agricultural areas. They are known for their agility and ability to run swiftly, as well as their ability to take short flights if necessary. Chinese Painted Quails are generally social and can be kept in pairs or small groups, but they should be provided with enough space to roam and forage.
In terms of diet, Chinese Painted Quails are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of seeds, insects, and vegetation. In captivity, they can be provided with a balanced diet consisting of game bird feed, crushed seeds, fresh greens, and occasional live insects.
Breeding Chinese Painted Quails can be a rewarding experience. Females lay small eggs in concealed nests, and both parents take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the chicks. The young quails grow rapidly and reach maturity within a few months.
Due to their small size and attractive plumage, Chinese Painted Quails have gained popularity as pets and aviary birds around the world. They require appropriate housing, including secure enclosures with adequate shelter and protection from extreme weather conditions. With proper care and a suitable environment, these delightful little birds can bring joy and beauty to their keepers.
